Obituary for Joseph Guzik

Joseph Guzik of Doylestown, PA passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. He was 90.

Born in Suchodol, Poland, to the late John and Kunegunda (Markiewicz) Guzik, Joseph came to the United States with his mother on December 7, 1947, to join his father.

Joseph became a US citizen on July 14, 1954, and lived in Philadelphia, PA from 1955-1963 before moving to Doylestown, PA. He built a house with his wife Victoria on the property gifted by his wife’s parents.

Joseph worked as a cook for twenty years in Philadelphia and later worked as a custodian with the Central Bucks Regional School District at Unami Middle School in Chalfont for 28 years, retiring in 1999.

He loved gardening and was proud of his huge garden and fruit trees. He had a green thumb and once he planted a peach stone and a tree started to grow. Joseph would sit outside and watch the Plumstead baseball team play in the ballpark across from his home. Sometimes balls would come into the yard, and he would show them where they landed. One of the teams signed a ball and gave it to him together with a shirt and hat. Coaches would sit and talk to him.

He kept the bird feeders full and corn for the geese and leftovers fed the fox.

For 45 years, he volunteered as a cook in the cafeteria of The National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa on Sundays. On all three weekends of the festival, he would donate his time in the kielbasa stand. He was a member of the State Street Players, Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church and was a member of the parish for 58 years.

He was the beloved husband of 66 years to Victoria (Rachwal) Guzik; devoted father of Josephine Hafler, Juliana Hobbs, and Michele Gussman; loving grandfather of Lisa Redmer (Steven Redmer) Kristen Garis (Scott Garis), Victoria Marie Guzik-Mosher, Adalind Charlotte Guzik-Mosher, Julian Wallace Guzik-Mosher; cherished great-grandfather of Jack Henry Redmer and Cole Matthew Redmer; dear father-in-law of the late Wallace Hobbs; and former father-in-law of William Mosher.

The family will receive their friends at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 235 E. State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Friday, September 17th from 10:00-10:45 am, prior to the funeral mass at 11:00 am.

Cremation services were private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org would be greatly appreciated.
