Obituary for Sam Coniglio

Sam Coniglio, of Doylestown PA died peacefully at his home on August 17, 2021 with his loving wife Jane at his side. Samuel A. Coniglio was born March 15, 1932, to Samuel A. Coniglio Sr. and Rosalie (Green) Coniglio in Collingswood, NJ. While growing up during the depression, the family moved several times and then settled in the Philadelphia area.

Sam was graduated as a Golden Bear from St. Thomas More High School in 1950 and from Drexel University with a degree in Commerce and Engineering in 1955. While at Drexel, Sam was a member and President of the Alpha Pi Lambda Fraternity.

Sam spent the majority of his career in the spring manufacturing industry and Sam and his growing family lived in Doylestown, PA, Cincinnati, OH, Staten Island, NY, and several other places while his career flourished. He retired as a member of the upper management team from Lee Spring Company of New York after 18 years with that company. Sam was most proud of his design contribution to the unique constant force spring system that powered the landing gear for the LEM (lunar excursion module) during Neil Armstrong’s Apollo #11 mission.

His family was always a priority and very dear to Sam. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jane C. (Major) Coniglio, 6 children, Sam (Mary), Monica Tucker, Anne Duane, Ellen Patch (Ben), Tom (Cheryl), David (Jennifer), 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Anne Marie Holmstrom (Joseph) and brother-in-law Thomas Major (Donna).

Sam was an active member of the Doylestown Country Club for 47 years where he enjoyed his other love, playing golf with friends and family. Sam had a very strong Catholic faith and was active in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish as a member, lector, and Eucharistic minister for over 40 years. In addition to his golf, Sam also played bridge with Jane and their “Bridge Club” for many years and would handsomely refinish any piece of furniture if you asked him nicely.

The family will receive their friends at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 235 E. State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Wednesday, August 25th from 10:00-11:00 am, prior to the funeral mass at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his honor be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 East State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.
