Obituary for Elizabeth A. Cox

Elizabeth Cox (Genzken) of New Hope, PA passed away peacefully on July 24 with her family at her side.

Born Jan. 24, 1933 to Gertrude (Mohr) and Frederick Genzken, she was raised in Lyndhurst and Jersey City, NJ. She was married for 67 years to George Mullen Cox who passed away in 2019.

She is survived by her two daughters Laura Kessler (husband Lou) of Buckingham PA and Nancy Lawson (husband Frank) of Solebury, PA. She doted on her five grandchildren Stephen and Amanda Kessler and Joseph, Julia and Megan Lawson.

Elizabeth raised her family in Somerville, NJ where she worked for the public library and was a eucharistic minister at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. She and George retired to Toms River, NJ and traveled throughout the country and overseas as part of the Elder Hostel program. They relocated to New Hope in 2010 to be close to her family. Elizabeth loved gardening, knitting, and was an avid reader. She also loved animals and volunteered at the Popcorn Park Refuge Center and various SPCAs in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She especially loved her rescue cat Daisy.

A memorial visitation will be held at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 on Monday, Aug. 9th from 6:30-8:00 pm with a service to begin at 7:30 pm.

A committal service will be held at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940 on Tuesday, August 10th at 2:30 pm, where her husband was interred.
