Obituary for Michel Felix Faure

Michel Felix Faure, 75, of Erwinna, Pa, died Friday, July 2, 2021 surrounded by his family.

Born in Grenoble, France Michel started cooking professionally at the age of 14. He spent nine years in Paris, working his way through the French apprenticeship system, eventually achieving the coveted rank of Chef de Cuisine. He worked at some of the best restaurants in France, including George V and La Tour d’Argent. He also served as the Chef de Cuisine at the Hôtel France & Chateaubriand.

He came to the United States in 1969 to work for Odette Myrtil at Chez Odette in New Hope, Pa. He ran the kitchen there until 1975. In the following years he also spent time at Le Bec Fin in Philadelphia and served as the Executive Chef at the Hotel DuPont.

In the Bucks County area he helmed the kitchens at Colligan’s Stockton Inn and the Carversville Inn before he and his late wife, Barbara, purchased the Golden Pheasant Inn in 1986. Together they operated the hotel and restaurant, receiving excellent reviews in the New York Times and the Philadelphia Inquirer, until 2011 when their daughters took over the business. He was awarded the rank of Chef Rôtisseur by the Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.

He could be an imposing figure, both in and out of the kitchen. But those who truly got to know Michel found, beneath his stern surface, a man with a baudy sense of humor who loved to share entertaining stories about his life. He adored drinking champagne and laughing, was generous with his time and knowledge, and loved his friends and family ferociously.

Nothing made him happier than being in the kitchen and sharing his passion for food with patrons of his restaurants, his cooking class students and individuals he mentored in and out of the kitchen. His delicate sauces, decadent lobster bisque and famous onion soup will long be remembered.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, and is survived by his children Briar Mewbourne, Reyn Griffin, Brooks Faure, Brittany Booz, Blaise Faure, and Blake Faure, and his grandchildren Trey, Rhodes, Morgan, Libby, Pearson, Liam, Evan, Lylah and Olivia.

A memorial service will be held at Solebury Friends Meeting, 2680 Sugan Road, New Hope, PA 18938 on Saturday, November 13th at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Buckingham Friends School, Office of Advancement, PO Box 159, Lahaska, PA 18931 or https://www.bfs.org/apps/pages/ways-to-give
